Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection licensed for weight management. The active ingredient is tirzepatide. It works on two appetite hormone pathways, GLP-1 and GIP.

USING IT

Prepare
Choose a site
Stomach. Easiest to reach. Stay at least 5cm clear of your belly button.
Upper leg. The front and outer part, halfway between hip and knee.
Upper arm. Fine if someone else is doing it for you, awkward on your own.
Inject and bin
Keep unopened pens in the fridge between 2 and 8 degrees. Once you have started a pen, keep it for up to 6 weeks, in the fridge or below 30 degrees, with the cap on. Never freeze it. Read the patient information leaflet
SAFETY
Most side effects are mild and improve as your body gets used to Mounjaro. Your clinician can help you decide whether to stay on your current dose for longer.
Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects. Digestive symptoms are most common when starting treatment or after a dose increase, and they often settle as your body adjusts.
THE MOST COMMON MOUNJARO SIDE EFFECTS INCLUDE
Smaller meals, regular fluids and avoiding rich foods for a few days after an increase can help. Contact the clinical team if symptoms are severe, persistent or getting worse.

Rare but serious — get medical help straight away for severe tummy pain spreading to your back, yellow skin or eyes, swelling of the face, lips or throat, trouble breathing, or vomiting you cannot stop.
Climb the doses slowly, use smaller plates, stop when comfortable rather than full, keep fatty and fried food light for a few days after a step up, and drink steadily. Most sickness and gut upset fades within a week.
Constipation, reflux, bloating, dizziness and tiredness can also happen. Speak to the clinical team if a symptom is lasting, worsening, or getting in the way of your usual routine.
